This Privacy Policy explains how personal data is handled when you use the Driftwood Notes app (the “App”).
1. Controller
The controller responsible for data processing under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
Stefan Stolz h453 Resi-Weglein-Gasse 9 89077 Ulm Germany
Email: driftwood@h453.de Website: https://www.h453.de
2. Core principle: local data processing
Driftwood Notes is designed so that all content you enter is stored exclusively on your own device. The App uses a local SQLite database that resides only on your phone, tablet, or computer.
Specifically:
- There is no registration and no user account.
- Your notes, collections, and notification settings are never transmitted to us or to third parties.
- The App has no connection to any server operated by us. We ourselves have no access to your content.
- Cloud synchronization is not active in the current version. The App contains a technical foundation for a possible future sync feature, but it is disabled and currently transmits no data whatsoever.
3. What data the App processes on your device
| Data type | Purpose | Storage location |
|---|---|---|
| Text you enter (“notes”) | Core function of the App | Locally on your device only |
| Collections and their notification settings | Organization & delivery scheduling | Locally on your device only |
| Timestamp of when a note was last shown | So content is shown with variety | Locally on your device only |
| Theme/language setting | App display | Locally on your device only (device settings) |
| Technical log files | Troubleshooting by you, e.g. for support requests | Locally on your device only |
This data does not leave your device automatically. It is only transmitted to us if you actively choose to do so (see Section 4).
4. Exporting/importing your data
The App offers an export and import feature that lets you back up all your data as a file or transfer it to another device.
- Export creates a file on your device and hands it to your operating system’s native share sheet (iOS/Android/Windows/macOS). You decide yourself whether and where the file is shared (e.g. AirDrop, email, a cloud storage service of your choice, local storage). We do not receive access to the file.
- Import uses your device’s native file picker; you actively select the file yourself.
5. Local notifications
Driftwood Notes shows you reminders containing your notes at times you configure. These are exclusively local notifications, scheduled and triggered on your own device. There is no server-based push delivery, and no data is collected for advertising or analytics purposes.
To display notifications, the App asks for the corresponding permission from your operating system. You can revoke this permission at any time in your device settings.
6. No analytics, no tracking, no advertising
The App contains no analytics software, no advertising SDKs, and no third-party tracking. No usage profiles are created and no advertising identifiers are read.
7. Data processing by Apple
When you obtain the App through the Apple App Store, Apple Inc. (or Apple Distribution International for users in the EU) processes certain data as an independent controller — for example regarding purchase, billing, installation, and possibly anonymized crash reports. We have no influence over this processing; please refer to Apple’s own privacy policy for details: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
8. Legal basis
To the extent any personal data is processed in connection with the App (such as content you enter, stored locally on your device), this occurs to perform the usage agreement with you or to take steps prior to entering into it (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Where you grant permissions such as notifications, this is based on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you may withdraw at any time with effect for the future.
9. Retention and deletion
Because your content is stored exclusively on your own device, you determine how long it is kept. You can:
- delete individual notes or collections within the App at any time,
- delete all App data by uninstalling the App,
- create a backup via the export feature before uninstalling.
We do not hold any copies of your content ourselves that we could delete, since we never have access to it in the first place.
10. Your rights
Where personal data is affected, you generally have the following rights under the GDPR:
- Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR)
- Right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR)
- Right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR)
- Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
- Right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR)
- Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR)
- Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR)
Since Driftwood Notes does not transmit your content to us, these rights will in practice mainly concern any contact details you send us, for example, as part of a support request by email.

12. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We reserve the right to update this Privacy Policy if the App’s feature set changes (for example, if an optional cloud synchronization feature is introduced). The version published on this page at the time of your visit shall apply.
